Miss Universe 2020 to be held in May 2021

The organization of Miss Universe sent an e-mail to the national directors and have stated that 69th edition of Miss Universe i.e., Miss Universe 2020 will be held on 16th May 2021 in the United States. The competition will be held in the span of 7 days and all safety precautions for Covid-19 will be followed like Miss USA 2020 and Miss Teen USA 2020 competition. The venue for the competition is yet to be announced.

The mail read, “With the utmost respect and consideration for your hard work, after many internal discussions, in addition to consultations with health officials and immigration experts, we are pleased to announce we have set our schedule for the 69th Miss Universe competition to be held in 16th May 2021 in the United States. While we will have more information on the COVID protocols which we will need to follow in the coming weeks, we anticipate we will be observing the strict procedure we established and followed at the Miss USA event this past November, including a reduction in audience capacity.”

Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi from South Africa who has been performing her crown duties with utmost sincerity and honest even in tough times like pandemic will be crowning her successor at the end of the event finale. The representatives of respective countries have expressed their sheer excitement towards the date that has been revealed for the pageant and have started to prepare for their final night. The organization posted a video on their YouTube channel where the divas could be seen showcasing their confident and graceful walk from their homes.

Miss Universe Organization’s vice-president Shawn McClain had mentioned “There’s is a chance we change a bit, change some things about Miss Universe. I can’t say many details now, but changes in some parts of the show, some aspects of the competition to make it more a little 2021 as like an evolution of Miss Universe. We have a ton of people, a huge team thinking, creating the new format, new way of doing things and we are working on that. Now the pandemic brought many negative things, but also many positives.”

A few weeks ago, there were rumors about Miss Universe Organization in talks with the Costa Rica government to host the pageant in Costa Rica this year but the recent email to the national directors have made it clear that the pageant will be held in the United States.

Email sent to the National Directors.

“Dear National Directors,
We would like to thank you for your continued patience and understanding while we navigate through these unprecedented times. We understand that 2020 was a tough and unforgiving year for everyone, and commend those of you who have managed to proceed despite the obstacles. Thank you for your continued commitment to the Miss Universe brand.
We remain committed to you, and we know that crowning a new Miss Universe 2020 and Miss Universe 2021 are of utmost importance to you (and to all of us) as we move forward and seek to get back on a “normal” calendar schedule. It was with this commitment in mind, that we approached and successfully held the Miss USA event in November, just as most of you did with your own franchises. We then turned to the production of Miss Universe 2020, which, as you know, we initially planned on producing in Q1 of this year, but that plan proved not to be viable due to uncertainties created by the COVID-19 pandemic. The next option, as mentioned in my previous email, was to push production to April or May, with the understanding that the situation remains fluid, as we must abide by ever-changing COVID protocols and travel restrictions.
With the utmost respect and consideration for your hard work, after many internal discussions, in addition to consultations with health officials and immigration experts, we are pleased to announce we have set our schedule for the 69th MISS UNIVERSE competition to be held in May 16th in the United States. While we will have more information on the COVID protocols which we will need to follow in the coming weeks, we anticipate we will be observing the strict procedures we established and followed at the Miss USA event this past November, including a reduction in audience capacity.
As stated, we have sought counsel of immigration experts and will continue to do so. While vaccination is not a requirement yet for travel in the United States, it could become one if dictated by the WHO or CDC, or if vaccines become widely available.
As for Miss Universe 2021, at this juncture, we are presently planning to produce the 2021 Miss Universe Competition in December, most likely in a non-USA destination and more in keeping with our larger scale production and audience. Once negotiations are finalized, we will share the announcement. Additionally, providing you are granted a 2021 license, please note we are waiving the usual August 30th show deadline requirement and will give you until October 31st to produce your 2021 show. We hope this decision will bring some relief to you and encourage more participation.”
