Christine Burke was crowned Ms. Wheelchair America 2022 at the end of the virtual competition, held on August 14, 2021. The representative of California succeeds Ms Wheelchair America 2020 Hilary Muehlberger.
Burke was born with spina bifida, which is a condition that prevents the spinal cord from developing properly. She works as talent manager for C Talent Management, which represents high profile D/deaf and disabled artists and athletes globally. She helps actors, authors, athletes, and others develop their careers while industries recognize the value in equality.
After being crowned Ms. Wheelchair America, Burke will spend the next year serving as a spokeswoman for Americans with Disabilities. Her advocacy platform is “Putting Disability Back in Diversity”.
Unlike traditional beauty pageants, Ms. Wheelchair America is not a contest to select the most attractive individual. It is instead a competition based on advocacy, achievement, communication and presentation to select the most accomplished and articulate spokeswoman for persons with disabilities.
