21-year-old Dilay Willemstein from Eindhoven was crowned Miss World Nederland (Netherlands) 2021 at the stunning De Koning Venue Máxima Ballroom on 30th June. She was crowned by her successor Miss World Netherlands 2019, Brenda Felicia Muste. She will represent the Netherlands at the month-long festival and highly anticipated 70th Miss World Final in Puerto Rico, where reigning Miss World, Toni-Ann Singh will crown her successor.
Dilay has been dancing since the age of four and completed her dance training in Utrecht. As well as being a professional dancer, Dilay now teaches dance and works as a model. Unsurprisingly she was amongst the top 5 in the talent preliminary.
Each of the finalists had a Beauty with a Purpose project which were presented at the final. For Dilay’s Beauty with a Purpose project she started the campaign “Mijn naam is…” (My name is…) which aims to improve the way people think about mental illness. Dilay said: “I want to use my talents on a large platform to make social problems a topic for discussion and to exert a positive influence. I want to inspire people and start beautiful projects, such as the one I started at Miss World. The aim is to contribute to the social awareness of people with mental disorders. There are still so many prejudices about people with psychological complaints. I would like to break that.”
After the crowning, she took to her social media to share her sheer happiness and excitement as she wrote, “Wow, what a special night this was. Words cannot describe how I feel right now! I was crowned Miss World Netherlands 2020/21. I worked so hard for this and proved that if you give 100%, you can achieve anything you want. I can’t wait to embark on this beautiful journey and share my story with others. Off to Puerto Rico. I want to thank everyone for the sweet messages and the support I’ve had. “
The Dilay’s court includes Lizzy Dobbe from Den Helder as the 1st runner-up and Laura Bas from Amsterdam as 2nd runner-up.
