Beyond the Crown

Pageant contestant continues charity work

Since my mother passed away I feel like there is an emptiness inside me. Helping others and making people smile seems to ease the pain.I know it is what she would be doing if she was here so I know I am making her smile by doing it. I love Cochrane and I will continue to help people in any way I can,” says Sammie Barrette who has been participating in a number of philanthropic projects for the last couple of years.

Her most recent endeavour is to make money for VCARs by hosting “Sammie’s Sweeties” photo contest.

Everything is going great. Looks like I will be right at my $300.00 donation mark. We had a lot of different categories this year too so I am really excited. And both girls and boys. I am really happy I don’t have to be a judge,” she said. Winners will be announced shortly.

Her next project is participating in “The Coldest Night a of The Year” walk.

“I am really excited. It is held on Feb 20 and is a virtual walk, so they have a place for everyone. This event raises money for charities serving people experiencing homelessness, hurt, and hunger. I will be apart of the Timmins event hosted by The Anti-Hunger Coalition of Timmins. They are a local charity that works with community partners to provide programs that make fresh, healthy, affordable food more accessible for everyone in Timmins.
For donations you can search me on the website, see me at Giant Tiger or message me and I can arrange pick up.”

Many of these projects stem from her participating in the Royal International Miss Pageant. Unfortunately, COVID prevented her from going to Florida for the event last summer.

If Team Canada can not participate in Royal International Miss Pageant this year it will be heartbreaking but there is always next year. We have to do what is the safe option and to keep everyone healthy. Of course I will be continuing my efforts. I absolutely love helping my community and giving back.
